In a letter sent to Secretary of the Treasury, the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger has indicated that his state may need an emergency loan of 7 billion dollars from the federal government to pay for the daily operations of the state.
The governor's letter, published by the newspaper Los Angeles Times, was sent in the hours preceding the vote to approve the law bailout of the financial system and indicates that the money is needed to pay the salaries of public employees, including teachers, policemen and doctors.
In the letter, Schwarzenegger said the federal rescue package should not be used as a lifesaver for the millionaires on Wall Street but to help the millions of Americans who find their savings, businesses, retirement plans and work on the line.
